Since 1999, in partnership with the Institut Lumière, the Cinémas du Sud Festival takes place to honor the cinematography of the countries of Maghreb and the Middle East, and in 2008 was certified under the European Year of International Dialogue (EYID).

The selections reflect the realities facing the contemporary Arab world, and through the unique eyes of the filmmakers, take on the strife that these regions know: the question of religion, political ambiguity, xenophobia, fundamentalism, war and exile, among others.

In offers, as well, the opportunity to discover rare works, some unreleased, and others released on difficultly accessible circuits. Exchanges, discussions and meetings are organized to facilitate the discovery of these regions that are so far, yet so very close.
